»Night of Surprise« at Stadtgarten Köln

NICA artist Sophie Emilie Beha is part of the »Night of Surprise« programming team.

On Saturday, 14 October, »Night of Surprise« takes place for the tenth time at Stadtgarten Köln. Since 2013, the one-night festival brings music on stage in all rooms of the venue with free admission, explicitly inviting people to leave their listening habits or genre labels at home and discover something new.

The artistic director is curator Thomas Gläßer. Since last year’s edition of the event, curator and music journalist Sophie Emilie Beha is also part of the Night of Surprise programme team. Starting in late 2022, she has been supported as a curator as part of NICA artist development and this year, for example, she was artistically responsible for »Houbara - Resonanzen Iran«, a two-day festival at the concert hall and Klub Jaki at Stadtgarten. Also involved in the programming of this experimental night on Saturday this week are Meryem Erkus, Friedemann Dupelius and Kieran Kaul.

On the tenth anniversary, »Night of Surprise« spreads her wings and starts on October 12 with Catherine Lamb’s Descensus Trio at Christuskirche and continues tomorrow evening with a concert by Trickster Orchestra at Stadtgarten.
