“Protecting A Picture That’s Fading” published on Traumton Records

In the past four years, Fabian Dudek has received a lot of attention, especially with his quartet (featuring Felix Hauptmann, Fabian Arends, David Helm). Their debut from 2019 already received an enthusiastic response.

The album released today on Traumton Records was recorded with the formation La Campagne, which was founded around two and a half years ago. From the end of 2020 to August 2022, the ensemble met again and again for intensive rehearsal phases to fill Dudek’s given framework with a collective vision. His compositions became the basis for creative developments, a kind of stimulus for all participants to contribute their own thoughts. “During the recordings, something new kept happening from take to take,” says Dudek, “we only got to this particular point through the many rehearsals. We play with the material and in the process loosen rules; these are personal and collaborative processes.”

Dudek and his alto saxophone become audible after about a quarter of an hour, in the second half of the second piece: “I have fun listening to the others play my music,” says Dudek calmly, “I’m interested in what’s good for the music, not in my ego as an instrumentalist.
