Congratulations!

Flutist, composer and arranger Jorik Bergman - NICA artist 2024 - receives the Horst and Gretl Will Scholarship for Jazz and Improvised Music 2025, awarded to promote contemporary music and the free artistic development of young musicians.

Statement of the jury on the awarding of the scholarship:

“The quality and originality as well as the colorful differentiation of her compositional work for larger ensembles is exceptional, and as a flutist she represents a unique and rather rare voice in the jazz context. The jury also paid particular attention to the intensive and varied work required to bring together and maintain larger ensembles on a freelance basis and to provide them with opportunities to play, music and perform. The fact that Jorik Bergman has been doing this with remarkable success for some time contributed to the jury’s decision.”

The award-winning concert will take place on September 5 as part of the Cologne Jazzweek in the concert hall of the Stadtgarten Köln. Here, Berman will present a new large ensemble constellation with the brand new program “Perennial Potpourri”. Admission to the prizewinners’ concert is free.
